Sony Reveals PlayStation Store's Most Downloaded Games in 2018

Sony Reveals PlayStation Store's Most Downloaded Games in 2018

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 PS4 PlayStation 4 Game Store

As we know, digital sales are becoming more and more important in the world of video games. We recently learned that, in the UK, roughly 80 per cent of the total consumer spend in 2018 was on digital games, which is a huge figure. With this in mind, Sony has just unveiled 2018's most downloaded games for the North American and European PlayStation Stores, and you can probably guess which ones are at the top.
In the US, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the best selling PS4 game on the digital storefront last year, followed by the mighty Red Dead Redemption 2 and Marvel's Spider-Man. Treyarch's multiplayer-only FPS came second in Europe, where FIFA 19 scored the number one spot. The remainders of each top 10 are relatively similar, with the likes of God of War, Far Cry 5, and Grand Theft Auto V showing up in both.
As for PSVR, Beat Saber saw the most success, coming first in Europe and second in North America, where Job Simulator was the best selling virtual reality title. Astro Bot Rescue Mission was sixth in Europe, but didn't even place in the US top 10. And when it comes to free-to-play and DLC, no one should be surprised to learn that Fortnite dominated these charts.

Monster Hunter: World's The Witcher Event Begins Early February

monster hunter witcher event

Capcom has attached a date to Monster Hunter: World's intriguing crossover event featuring Geralt from The Witcher. The event itself will see players assist the White Wolf and tackle new quests. Needless to say, we're looking forward to seeing what's in store.
It all kicks off on the 8th February, so it'll be here before you know it. What's more, the event will launch alongside a new title update, but there are no details on what that's about just yet.

Bandai Namco Teases Big News for Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2

Dragon Ball Fighterz xenoverse 2 news

Bandai Namco's starting 2019 off with a bit of bang, it seems. A big bang, you might say. The publisher has revealed that it'll be hosting a Dragon Ball-based stream next week, titled the 'Dragon Ball Games Super Showcase'.
Apparently, the stream will feature "big reveals, big news, and big interviews with the producers of Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2". It's scheduled to go live on Twitch on the 14th January at 16:00 PT -- that's 00:00 on the 15th January here in the UK.
Earlier in the week, we reported on Bandai Namco's not-so-subtle teasing of a Dragon Ball FighterZ announcement, but that was supposedly set for the game's world finals tournament that's happening on the 26th and 27th January. Whatever's going on, it should be a big month for Dragon Ball fans.

God Eater 3 Action Demo PS4 PlayStation 4

Bandai Namco has just released a demo for its upcoming action RPG, God Eater 3. You can download it now to your PS4, but the catch is that you'll only have a small window of time in which to play it. Oh, and you'll need PlayStation Plus, too.
You can play it between now and 11pm GMT on Sunday 13th January -- in other words, you've got the weekend to check it out. The file size comes in at just under 8GB, so it shouldn't trouble most connections. As for what's included in this demo for the Monster Hunter-like action title, you'll be able to create your character and tackle Aragamis in either single player or multiplayer missions.

Feature: Push Square Readers' Top 10 Most Anticipated PS4 Games of 2019

most anticipated games 2019

Here we are again with another community-voted top 10, only this time, we're not looking back on the year that was, as we did with our readers' Game of the Year vote. Instead, we're looking ahead to the next 12 months, and so earlier this week, we asked you lot to vote for your most anticipated games of 2019.
Below, you'll find the Push Square community's top 10 most anticipated PlayStation 4 titles. Again, it's worth noting that games like The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima were not included in the poll, as they don't have an officially confirmed 2019 release window.
So, what games are you lot most looking forward to in 2019? Let's find out.
10. The Division 2 - 78 votes (4% of total vote)
9. Devil May Cry V - 87 votes (4%)
8. Metro: Exodus - 94 votes (4%)
7. ANTHEM - 98 votes (5%)
6. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled - 104 votes (5%)

The Outer Worlds Ps4

5. The Outer Worlds - 105 votes (5%)

A shock announcement at The Game Awards 2018, The Outer Worlds looks to be a proper sci-fi role-playing title from the genre masters over at Obsidian. The developer's final project before being snapped up by Microsoft, this could well be the last time we see the studio put in an appearance on PlayStation, so we're hoping that it goes out with a bang. The bottom line right now is that The Outer Worlds looks like Mass Effect and Fallout had a weird baby, so it's no surprise to see it so high on your list.

Kingdom Hearts Iii

4. Kingdom Hearts III - 157 votes (7%)

We would love to write a joke about Kingdom Hearts III making it onto every most anticipated list for the last five years, but hey, it's finally, finally coming out in 2019. The supposed finale to Square Enix's beloved action RPG series, it's set to wrap up years of emotional storytelling. Fans obviously won't need to think twice about getting hyped for this one, and so it settles as your fourth most anticipated game of 2019.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice

3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - 166 votes (8%)

From Software is one of the most trusted developers in the industry right now. The Japanese studio could sell sh*t in a bag and people would go barmy over it, poking and prodding to learn its secrets. As such, despite being something of a departure from the RPG-focused elements of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Sekiro has commanded our attention since the second it was teased. Its grisly action looks predictably phenomenal, and the fantasy-infused Japanese setting seems spellbinding. A well earned third place on your list.

Resident Evil 2 Ps4

2. Resident Evil 2 - 216 votes (10%)

It looks damn good, doesn't it? Capcom's pushing to be a major player in 2019, and it all starts with Resident Evil 2's long awaited remake. An inexperienced Leon S. Kennedy slogging his way through countless skirmishes with shufflers sets the tone for what should be a refreshingly straightforward reminder of how good Capcom's survival horror series can be, and coming off the back of the very well received Resident Evil 7, it's hard not to have high hopes. Second most anticipated game of 2019? You better believe it.

Days Gone Ps4

1. Days Gone - 284 votes (13%)

Pulling ahead by some distance, Days Gone is your most anticipated title of 2019. The PS4 exclusive has been a known quantity for quite some time, but that certainly didn't stop you lot from voting for it. And for the record, we agree -- at this point we just want to play the damn thing. Fortunately, that seems to be on the cards seeing as Days Gone has a set April release date.
A gritty post-apocalyptic open world adventure starring ridiculously named biker Deacon St. John, you're going to be fighting for your life against undead hordes, murderous survivors, and everything in between, including zombie animals, obviously.
Hopefully, Days Gone is going to end up referring to the number of hours that you sink into our readers' most anticipated title of 2019.

Fallout 76 gets Legendary Hunting Rifles and common-sense Fusion Core reform in a new update

Fallout 76 gets Legendary Hunting Rifles and common-sense Fusion Core reform in a new update

Fallout 76 gets Legendary Hunting Rifles and common-sense Fusion Core reform in a new update

Fallout 76's latest update is packed full of tweaks and fixes, with more than 150 changes heading to the game by Bethesda's accounting. The 500MB update went live on PC today and will start to roll out on consoles as a roughly 4GB download next week. Whether you're rolling through a slightly refreshed Appalachia right now or waiting for the patch to hit your platform of choice, here are six of the biggest changes to look out for.

Teensy bobby pins and more balance changes

Bobby pins - those improbably handy items used for picking locked doors and containers - used to take up 0.1 units worth of weight in your inventory. Now they're only 0.001 each. That means you can carry 100 bobby pins in the space you used to need to carry one! Picking locks is a little tougher in Fallout 76 than it was in Fallout 4, so this is a very welcome change for would-be burglars. That said, if you know somebody who knows somebody who could duplicate up a few hundred bobby pins for you, that may have changed too. Bethesda says it's fixed an item duping glitch.

Legendary Hunting Rifles are a thing and lever-action reloads work properly

Put a new entry on the top of your scavenging list: Legendary Hunting Rifles. With the new legendary tier for the trusty weapon, you'll find extra-powerful hunting rifles out in the world with unique perks of their own. Hunting rifles have been a favorite weapon in just about every Fallout game and it's good to see that tradition continue in Fallout 76. Oh, and another rifle-related change: the reload animation for lever-action rifles now shows the appropriate number of rounds being loaded in, rather than the default five rounds every time. Good news unless you have a lever-action rifle that could hold, say, 20.

Gear gets easier to maintain (for the most part)

Overall repair costs have been reduced for Fallout 76, including both weapons and armor, and mid-to-high-level armor in particular has repair component requirements cut by 20 percent. Note that repair component costs get higher as you level up, so this won't make higher level gear cheaper to maintain than its lower level counterparts. If you like rocking Power Armor, there's some good and bad news: Fusion Core generators will now produce cores at their intended rate (eight cores per hour), but you'll no longer be able to reset a partially spent core by logging out and in again while in your Power Armor.

PvP tweaks make for more fair fights

Somebody walking up and opening your cabinet without your permission isn't cool, right? This Fallout 76 update agrees, and thus it is now a PvP-provoking action to open player-owned containers. It also isn't cool for somebody you're fighting to have their non-PvP-enabled teammate block your access to a workshop either, so that will put them in PvP too. Speaking of workshops, any turrets on the premises will now join the fight against players whom the workshop's owner is fighting.

Performance improvements help you savor the apocalypse

A miscellaneous assortment of performance improvements are coming to Fallout 76, depending on which platform you play. Here are a few that will benefit all players: improved client performance when watching a nuclear detonation, so you can burn out your retinas with a nice smooth framerate; better performance in areas with a lot of those creepy Scorched statues; and a fix for a background freeze that could occur when reading a note.

And more fixes for all kinds of weird issues

It wouldn't be a Bethesda game without some strange glitches. Here are some highlights plucked from the rest of the patch notes:
  • Weapons: Fixed an issue where bashing an enemy with certain weapons would add the projectile to the enemy's inventory.
  • Weapons: The Vampire weapon mod effect now works only when hitting living targets as intended.
  • Quack Surgeon: Quack Surgeon no longer allows for reviving hostile players.
  • Robots: Fixed an issue that would cause robots to respawn too frequently in Whitesprings.
  • Scorched: Fixed an issue where Wasteland Whisperer could affect Scorched. Dev Note: Wasteland Whisperer can no longer be used to pacify Scorched.

The Division 2 is skipping Steam in favor of the Epic Games Store on PC

The Division 2 is skipping Steam in favor of the Epic Games Store on PC

The Division 2 is skipping Steam in favor of the Epic Games Store on PC

Steam has long been a monolith of the PC gaming marketplace, but the Epic Games Store is making moves to shake up its near-monopoly - and now it's got another sizable exclusive under its belt. Epic and Ubisoft have joined forces to bring Tom Clancy's The Division 2 to the Epic Games Store and the first-party Ubisoft Store, foregoing Steam entirely. This could also be a sign for Ubisoft game exclusivity to come: "Ubisoft and Epic Games store will also partner on additional select titles to be announced during the coming year," says the official press release.
The Epic Games Store is still relatively new, but already it's gaining steam (sorry) in the war on Valve's prominent storefront. To entice publishers into partnering, Epic only takes 12% of a game sale, as opposed to Steam's 30% revenue split (though Valve is making somewhat controversial adjustments to that figure). Just as Destiny 2 ignored Steam in favor of Activision Blizzard's own Battle.net, the shared-world shooting and looting of The Division 2 is willing to cut out the Steam audience, showing a lot of faith in Epic's upstart marketplace. As PC Gamer spotted, The Division 2 was previously listed on Steam, but its product page has been purged.
This is the latest in a string of exclusives and offers that the Epic Games Store has snagged to help turn the tides in its favor. At the tail end of 2018, Epic gave away free copies of the excellent underwater survival game Subnautica (for a limited time, sadly), got the exclusive early access release of Hades from Bastion and Pyre developer Supergiant Games, and will be the only place to buy The Walking Dead: The Final Season on PC going forward. Meanwhile, Steam has done... basically nothing to fight back, with Valve seemingly content to do what it's always done: sit back and see how the forces of capitalism sort themselves out.
Granted, The Division 2 does face some risks by going all-in on the Epic Games Store. The first game had strong launch sales on Steam, and continues to enjoy a steady stream of daily Steam players. Storefront exclusivity can also backfire, as CD Projekt discovered when the excellent card game Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales saw disappointing launch sales and eventually made its way to Steam after its original status as a GOG exclusive.
We'll have to wait and see how this all shakes out when The Division 2 launches on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 15, but this is already an impressive AAA-sized feather in the Epic Games Store's cap. If Epic can leverage that sweet, sweet Fortnite money into more heavy-hitting exclusives, we may start to see Steam sweat.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is already among our most anticipated new games of 2019.

Metro Exodus Artyom Edition comes with a Nixie Watch and gas mask, but you can't buy it

Metro Exodus Artyom Edition comes with a Nixie Watch and gas mask, but you can't buy it

Metro Exodus got a spiffy new story trailer yesterday, and while developer 4A Games did promise more reveals to come, I didn't expect the studio to put out a new video so quickly, nor did I expect it to be about one of the coolest collector's editions I've seen in a while. Today, 4A Games unveiled the extremely limited Artyom Edition, which comes with a boatload of handcrafted Metro swag. Here's the kicker: you can't buy it.
"This extraordinary bespoke edition is so rare only 10 have been made, and they are not available to purchase in any store," 4A Games said. "Instead, Metro fans around the world will have the opportunity to win them via a number of planned promotions in the coming weeks."
So, what's in the thing? As Metro author Dmitry Glukovsky explains in the video above, a fancy box, for starters. The Artyom Edition comes in a steel ammo crate, which is a nice touch. Inside you'll find:
  • A functional Nixie Watch housed in a "nuclear-proof" canister
  • A gas mask with an attachable filter
  • A functional lighter "made from a decommissioned sniper shell"
  • A Spartan dog tag engraved with the recipient's name
  • A map of the Aurora locomotive's path through Metro Exodus, complete with a leather case
  • A certificate of ownership signed by Glukovsky and Metro creative director Andrew Prokhorov
Technically, only nine of these editions will be available to fans, as one has already been claimed by the folks at 4A Games. The studio says promotion details will be delivered in the coming weeks via social channels like Twitter and Instagram. So if you're hellbent on winning one, keep your eyes peeled.
We got our first taste of Metro Exodus' promising open-world wasteland last year.

Bungie axes Destiny 2's Niobe Labs puzzle requirement, will open Bergusia Forge later today

Bungie axes Destiny 2's Niobe Labs puzzle requirement, will open Bergusia Forge later today

Update 2: The Destiny 2 community has been trying to solve a puzzle for the past 27 hours in order to unlock the final Lost Forge in the Black Armory DLC for all players, but due to mounting complaints about new content being locked behind a time-consuming activity, Bungie has opted to essentially abandon the puzzle and open the Bergusia Forge for all players (who own the annual pass) today, January 9, at 2pm PST / 5pm EST / 10pm BST. Bungie also released a statement regarding the ill-fated community event:
"While coming together as a community to solve puzzles can be fun, setting this puzzle up as a gate between you and new content that you want to play has not been an ideal experience. As such, we will be decoupling the puzzle from the final offering of the Black Armory. All Annual Pass owners will be able to experience the Bergusia Forge when the puzzle is solved or when the deadline expires - whichever happens first.
"We realize that many of you have been working hard to solve the puzzle of the Niobe Labs. Whatever the outcome, it will remain open for Annual Pass owners who still want to test their problem solving skills. There is a Ghost and an Emblem to earn as evidence that you completed the challenge.
"We love trying new things with Destiny, but we’re also flexible enough to pivot when you point out room for improvement. We’ll continue to monitor the conversation about this event and learn from your feedback as we create future content releases."
I'm excited to play the Bergusia Forge for myself, but I also feel for the streamers and brainiacs who've been bashing their head against this puzzle non-stop for over a day. The players that have been on the frontlines can still clear Niobe Labs to earn a Ghost shell and emblem, but that can't be as satisfying as unlocking new content for the community Last Wish-style. This puzzle was an exciting surprise when it was revealed, so it's a shame to see it fizzle out this way.
Update: Yesterday, a surprise Destiny 2 update abruptly kicked off a race to complete a new puzzle which will unlock the final Lost Forge in the Black Armory DLC for all players. Destiny streamers and raid sleuths alike piled in, but despite their best efforts - with some streamers playing straight through the night - the puzzle has yet to be solved.
At the time of writing, it's been exactly 24 hours since the Niobe Labs puzzle was released - and while players have reached what's believed to be the final wave of the puzzle, the Bergusia Forge is still locked. To put that in perspective, the race to complete the first raid in Destiny, the Vault of Glass, took 14 hours. The first raid in Destiny 2, Last Wish, took players 19 hours. Hell, the Black Armory raid Scourge of the Past took players a scant two hours. So when the best minds in the Destiny community can't crack something even after a full day of work, you know it's tough.
You can read a nice roundup of players' discoveries over on the Destiny Raid Secrets subreddit. Niobe Labs is filled with the same type of rune puzzles seen in previous forges, requiring players to stand in certain places and shoot specific symbols using Black Armory weapons. However, the Bypass stage of the encounter is also overflowing with high-level enemies.  Basically, it's like trying to solve a crossword puzzle written in code while standing in the middle of a mosh pit, and that's where players are currently stuck.
Wave six of the Bypass was handily the biggest roadblock so far. Players were stuck on this wave alone for roughly 12 hours - so you can imagine their dismay when, rather than the end of this brain-draining gauntlet, a seventh wave spooled up when it was finally cleared. Naturally, the solution to wave seven has been the subject of much debate, with suggestions ranging from allusions to Arthurian legend to full-on Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia connections between obscure lore fragments.
Nevertheless, players are definitely close. The biggest clue to completing wave seven may be the special ammo crates that spawn toward the end of the wave. No other wave had these crates, and as Destiny streamer Gigz pointed out on Twitter, the symbol which appears in wave seven seems to connect to the different elemental damage types available on special weapons.
When streamers were still stuck on wave six, Destiny 2 narrative lead Guillaume Colomb said on Twitter that players are just overthinking things, and it's possible that's the case for wave seven as well. Of course, you can hardly fault people for being a bit rattled after grinding the same activity for 24 hours straight. At the time of writing, Destiny streamer xGladd - who was part of the first fireteam to clear Last Wish - is carrying the torch. Gladd reckons the puzzle will be solved in the next 12 hours - even if it's not his team that does it - and with Bergusia Forge on the line, all Destiny 2 players are hoping he's right.
Original story:
The fourth and final Lost Forge in Destiny 2: Black Armory arrived today, but rather than another grindy questline, Bungie revealed on Twitter that the Bergusia Forge must be unlocked through a lengthy puzzle connected to the mysterious runes players have been poring over for weeks. Here's the kicker: once someone clears the puzzle, the Bergusia Forge will be unlocked for all players, just like how the first Last Wish raid completion expanded the Dreaming City.
The puzzle is centered around an area in the European Dead Zone, Niobe Labs, which can be accessed via a broken bridge located near Sojourner's Camp in the Outskirts. Niobe Labs is plastered with the same runes dotted around the other three forges, but how they're connected is anyone's guess. Different runes are visible when viewed through the sights of different Black Armory weapons, and there are multiple symbols and codes at play.
It's not as flashy as the races to complete the Last Wish and Scourge of the Pastraids, but the Bergusia puzzle is every bit as exciting. It was a total surprise, for starters, and it will also unlock new content for everyone. Hell, the fact that we don't have to grind out another Forge quest is reason enough to celebrate, and besides that, the Bergusia Forge likely holds the solution to Black Armory's ongoing Mysterious Box Exotic quest. It's going to be an exciting week for Destiny 2, that's for sure. If you want to watch the puzzle race live, head to Destiny 2's Twitch directory. (Personally, I'd recommend tuning into Teawrex, a well-known and well-spoken Destiny puzzler, and Destiny YouTuber Datto.)
Destiny 2: Black Armory is a pretty fun grind, and as always, Destiny 2 is at its best during tense moments like these.
